Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse

I had a few chuckles while watching Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.  However, it is altogether a silly film.  At times, it seemed the zombies were more ferocious and the kill scenes a little more graphic than The Walking Dead.  Other times, the costumes and film quality were low budget.  (I think the director tried to spread out the zombies they spent a lot of money on, hoping you would not notice the low-budget zombie costumes and makeup.)

If you really need to get out of the house, this film is worth seeing in the theater.  Otherwise, take it home as your 3rd DVD pick.  Or, randomly add it to your streaming queue.

Starring: Tye Sheridan, Logan Miller, Sarah Dumont, and Joey Morgan

P.S. Do not be surprised if you cannot stop humming Britney Spears song Baby One More Time after watching this movie.

The Last Witch Hunter

Warning: I am not sure I would consider my review of this film reliable.  That being said, you may want to rely on your own thoughts about it.  That is, I saw the movie in the theater, but it was not in a language I understood.  So, all I can tell you is that the film looked good.  I liken it to a modern day Conan the Barbarian.

The witches were not made to look like zombies, so you don’t have to worry about zombie exhaustion.  Instead, they went for the exorcist look.

If you’re up to seeing a (not so scary) film, yet you want to feel the spirit of Halloween, go see The Last Witch Hunter in the theater.  Otherwise, make it your 2nd DVD pick.

Starring: Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood, and Michael Caine

Bridge of Spies

There is a great deal of intrigue and talk of about the U.S. constitution in this “historical” piece.  Tom Hanks does a great job (as always) keeping patron’s focused on the screen.

Due to the general nature of the subject matter, though, you may be better off watching this cerebral film on your sofa.  From your favorite spot you can pause it, think about what has transpired, and resume watching the film.

That being said, take Bridge of Spies home as your 2nd DVD pick.  Or, randomly add it to your streaming queue.

Starring: Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance

The Martian

Wow, Hollywood is back!  That’s right. Hollywood is back to making adventure films that make us believe in ourselves and in space (again).

The Martian is an intriguing and exhilarating film; its events (the multiple highs and lows) flow effortlessly.  So, be prepared to have a really good time with this roller-coaster of a film.  Matt Damon does not disappoint.

Note: If you are expecting to see the Bourne Identity in Space, Armageden 2, or Cast Away on Mars, look elsewhere.

Recommendation: See The Martian in the theater.  If not, take it home as your 1st DVD pick!

Starring: Matt Damon, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, etc.
