The Martian

Wow, Hollywood is back!  That’s right. Hollywood is back to making adventure films that make us believe in ourselves and in space (again). 

The Martian is an intriguing and exhilarating film; its events (the multiple highs and lows) flow effortlessly.  So, be prepared to have a really good time with this roller-coaster of a film.  Matt Damon does not disappoint.

Note: If you are expecting to see the Bourne Identity in Space, Armageden 2, or Cast Away on Mars, look elsewhere. 

Recommendation: See The Martian in the theater.  If not, take it home as your 1st DVD pick!

Checkmate

I would really like to tell you this film was great because of the actors that appeared in it; however, I cannot.  The film was bad!

Or, should I say…it was poorly directed. 

The story was somewhat complex.  It contained three distinct storylines that converged into a single, intriguing narrative.   Yet, it seemed as though the story was told from the wrong point of view.  From the vantage point the director gives us, it is difficult to absorb the depth of the story until the end.  Even at that point, you are forced to fill in the gaps with your own thoughts.

Recommendation: Leave this film on the shelf and off of your streaming list.

Thor

I almost made a complete fool of myself while watching this film. That is, I felt the overwhelming desire to kneel before the screen and spout the words, “Oh, Thor mighty god of thunder!"  Lucky for me, I subdued the urge and I sat back and enjoyed the film in silence.

Thor provided me with just the escape I needed.  I got caught up in the action and special effects.  The film was reminiscent of the 1980s Flash Gordon movie.  (I was swept away by this film as well.)

Recommendation: Go see this movie in the theater today. If not, take it home as your 1st DVD pick.
